LGBTQ+ people have made tremendous contributions to this country. They cannot be erased.
At a time when many on the political right are trying to erase queer people, ideas and culture from the public consciousness, our project seeks to reframe the nation's collective understanding and appreciation of the vast contributions of LGBTQ+ folks in the U.S. — particularly in the last 100 years, since the 1924 founding of the nation's first gay rights organization. It does so through a series of six essays, four news stories on a new national poll conducted for the project, a portrait series and Q&A with queer young people, and a curated LGBTQ+ timeline from 1924-2024.
